Join Our Lecture on “Beyond Bias: Empowering Women and Promoting Diversity in Academia”

What barriers do women still face in academia, and how can we break them? Join us for an insightful online lecture titled “Beyond Bias: Empowering Women and Promoting Diversity in Academia” by Associate Professor Severine van Bommel from The University of Queensland on Friday, 21 March 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Jakarta time).

In today’s rapidly evolving academic landscape, the pursuit of excellence must go hand in hand with a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. "Beyond Bias: Empowering Women and Promoting Diversity in Academia" is a lecture that explores the persistent challenges women face in science and academia, from unconscious biases to systemic barriers. Through an exploration of current research, real-world examples, and successful initiatives such as Athena’s Angels, this session will highlight the impact of gender bias on career progression, the value of diverse perspectives in driving innovation, and the critical role of institutional policies in fostering inclusivity.

Participants will gain valuable insights into strategies for addressing gender bias at both individual and organisational levels, discover best practices for promoting diversity, and explore ways to empower women to reach their full potential in academic settings. Ultimately, this lecture aims to inspire a collective movement towards a more equitable academic environment—one where contributions from all individuals are recognised, diversity is celebrated, and inclusion is embedded as a fundamental pillar of academic excellence.

This lecture is open to the public, with graduates and scholars of Australian tertiary institutions from Indonesia especially encouraged to participate. Please RSVP using this link on Wednesday, 19 March, to confirm attendance. Attendees will receive an e-certificate in recognition of their participation.
