How can social media data be used to better understand society and drive meaningful impact?
Australia Awards in Indonesia, in collaboration with the University of New South Wales, invites you to join the upcoming AAI Masterclass Session, ‘A Mixed Methods Approach for Social Impact: Using Social Media Data’, delivered by Dr Yao-Tai Li on Thursday, 16 April 2026, from 2.00 PM - 4.00 PM (WIB) via Zoom.
As our lives become increasingly connected through digital platforms, social media is no longer just a space for communication, it also offers valuable insights into human behaviour, public opinion and social change. This masterclass will explore how social research methods can make sense of this data and turn it into meaningful impact.
Led by Dr Yao-Tai Li, Senior Lecturer of Sociology at the University of New South Wales, the session will introduce a range of research approaches, including audit studies, critical discourse analysis, topic modelling, sentiment analysis, network analysis and image analysis. Drawing on real-world examples, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how these methods can be applied in practice, along with their strengths and limitations.
