Apply Now for the Australia Awards Short Course on Strategic Border Management in Response to Irregular Migration
Are you a government official or technical practitioner working on immigration, border management, or security cooperation? The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, through Australia Awards in Indonesia, invites applications for the Australia Awards Short Course on ‘Strategic Border Management in Response to Irregular Migration’.
This short course aims to strengthen participants’ understanding of the geopolitical, policy and operational drivers of irregular migration in the Indo-Pacific region, while equipping them with practical tools to address emerging challenges such as people smuggling, trafficking in persons and cross-border security threats. Participants will explore best practices and innovative approaches to strategic border management, including risk-based and intelligence-led border control, enhanced inter-agency coordination, and comparative border management policies across the region.
The course is designed for decision-makers and technical officials from relevant government agencies, including immigration, border management, maritime security, law enforcement, foreign affairs, defence, and migrant protection institutions, as well as selected civil society organisations. Participants will also learn from Australian experiences and expertise in combating irregular migration and strengthening regional cooperation.
The course consists of a pre-course workshop in Indonesia, a two-week course in Australia, and a post-course workshop in Indonesia. Delivered by leading experts, the program will include workshops, case studies, site visits, simulations, peer learning and networking opportunities with Australian and regional stakeholders, and an Award Project.
Women from disadvantaged backgrounds and people with disability are strongly encouraged to apply. Apply online via this link no later than 17 June 2026 at 23.59 WIB. For more details, please visit this page.
Australia Awards in Indonesia will host a virtual information session on 29 May 2026 at 15.00 WIB to provide guidance on the application process and address queries. If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact shortcourse@australiaawardsindonesia.org
