Australian alumni represent an extraordinary community of leaders, innovators, and change-makers. With over 200,000 alumni in Indonesia, including senior government officials, business leaders, entrepreneurs, researchers, and community advocates, they are at the forefront of building stronger partnerships between Australia and Indonesia.
Through their work, alumni are contributing to economic growth, security, sustainability, and social progress in both countries. Individually and collectively, they are helping to shape the world around them as globally mobile, highly skilled alumni, empowered by a world-class Australian education.
The Australian Alumni Awards – South Sulawesi, supported by the Australian Consulate-General in Makassar, provide the highest recognition for alumni in South Sulawesi who have demonstrated exceptional achievements at local, national, and international levels. These awards are a platform to celebrate success, share inspiring stories, and highlight the powerful impact of Australian education on Indonesia’s future.

Why the Alumni Awards Matter
The Alumni Awards are not only a celebration of individual excellence but also a recognition of the wider alumni community’s role in advancing Australia-Indonesia relations. By honouring award recipients, we aim to:
- Recognise and showcase the significant contributions of Australian alumni in diverse professional fields.
- Position alumni as ambassadors for Australia, demonstrating the long-term value of Australian education.
- Inspire current and future alumni to pursue excellence, innovation, collaboration and leadership.
- Highlight Australia as a world-class education destination for prospective Indonesian students.
- Broaden and deepen people-to-people links between Australia and Indonesia.
Every nomination is an opportunity to showcase how alumni are leading change, whether in government, business, academia, community service, or social innovation.
Alumni Awards Categories
The Australian Alumni Awards – South Sulawesi will recognise achievements in four categories:
1. Community Impact Award
Honours alumni who have made a tangible difference in their communities through initiatives that improve livelihoods, promote inclusivity, and foster positive social change across South Sulawesi .
2. Emerging Leader Award
Recognises promising alumni in South Sulawesi who demonstrate outstanding leadership potential, initiative and commitment to driving meaningful change early in their professional or community careers.
3. Innovation Award
Celebrates alumni who have introduced groundbreaking innovations, built successful enterprises, or conducted research with transformative impact that drives progress and delivers lasting benefits to communities in South Sulawesi .
4. Collaboration and Partnership Award
Acknowledges alumni who have strengthened linkages and fostered impactful collaborations between Australia and South Sulawesi, promoting mutual growth and sustainable partnerships.
Who Can Apply?
- You may nominate any Indonesian national in South Sulawesi who has graduated from a recognised Australian tertiary institution (including short-term tertiary courses). Nominations from universities, employers, professional associations and community members are welcome.
We especially encourage nominations for alumni from disadvantaged backgrounds, people with disabilities, and indigenous people.

How to Nominate
Submit your nominations here by 4 January 2026, and include the following:
- A current biography or CV.
- Personal stories, e.g. their experience of studying in Australia and how this has contributed to their achievements.
- Supporting materials such as awards, certificates, publications, or media coverage.
- Additional references (e.g. project websites, multimedia content, testimonials).
Criteria for Selection
1. Community Impact Award
Recognises alumni who have made a minimum of a decade of tangible and lasting difference in their communities across South Sulawesi through impactful programs, leadership, or advocacy.
Selection criteria:
- Significant, community-driven impact across South Sulawesi.
- Measurable improvements in livelihoods, access, inclusion, or well-being.
- Long-term commitment and sustainability of outcomes.
- Approaches that prioritise social inclusion and reach marginalised groups.
2. Emerging Leader Award
Recognises outstanding early- to mid-career alumni who have shown exceptional leadership potential, initiative, and dedication to driving meaningful change in their professional or community spheres.
Selection criteria:
- Demonstrated emerging leadership and initiative in their field, organisation, or community.
- Strong leadership potential, vision, and initiative in driving positive change in South Sulawesi.
- Clear evidence of growth, adaptability, and commitment to future impact in their sector or community.
3. Innovation Award
Celebrates alumni who have introduced exceptional innovative ideas, solutions, technologies or research-based innovations that contribute to progress and sustainability in South Sulawesi. This can include the creation of a successful enterprise, the development of creative new ideas/designs/products for industry, innovative research findings, or recognition for outstanding innovation.
Selection criteria:
- Development of innovative solutions, technologies, research, or business models.
- Clear contribution to industry, community benefit, or systems improvement.
- Potential for scale-up or replication across South Sulawesi.
- Evidence of enterprise creation, innovative research outcomes, or sector-level influence.
4. Collaboration and Partnership Award
Honours alumni who have built strong partnerships and fostered collaborative initiatives that strengthen the bilateral relationship between Australia and South Sulawesi.
Selection criteria:
- Demonstrated success in establishing and sustaining impactful partnerships between institutions, organisations, or communities in Australia and South Sulawesi.
- Evidence of outcomes that have advanced shared goals in education, research, development, or social impact.
- Demonstrated leadership in promoting cross-cultural understanding and cooperation between the two nations.
The Selection Panel may also consider:
- The scale and significance of the impact.
- Gender and social inclusion.
- Sectoral diversity (government, private sector, civil society, academia).
Selection Process
1. Shortlisting: Nominations are reviewed by Australia Awards in Indonesia (AAI), in consultation with the Australian Consulate-General in Makassar, for eligibility and completeness.
2. Assessment: The Awards Selection Panel, comprising representatives from the Australian Consulate-General in Makassar, assesses all nominations against the criteria.
3. Notification: Nominators and winners are advised of the outcome.
