The representatives from government institutions, energy sector state-owned enterprises (SOEs), civil society organisations (CSOs), think tanks and research institutes recently gathered in Makassar for the post-course workshop of the Australia Awards Short Course on Mainstreaming GEDSI in Indonesia’s Energy Transition.
This short course, delivered by Griffith University, examined the crucial intersection of Gender Equality, Diversity, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) within Indonesia’s energy transition context. It addressed the principles of a "just" transition, emphasising the importance of ensuring that all communities benefit from the shift towards renewable energy. The Australian Consul-General in Makassar, Mr Todd Dias, underscored the significance of these themes in his opening remarks.
Throughout the post-course workshop, participants had opportunities to build connections and exchange ideas, especially during a lively networking dinner. This gathering fostered deeper discussions about the course content, allowing attendees to share real-world challenges and solutions in a relaxed setting, enriching their learning experience.
One of the workshop’s key highlights was a visit to the Tolo 1 Wind Farm Project. This impressive initiative is expected to generate over 268,300 MWh of renewable energy annually, supplying electricity to approximately 326,302 households. The visit offered participants a firsthand look at Indonesia's renewable energy efforts and the practical implications of a just energy transition. The post-course activities concluded with participants presenting their award projects.
Congratulations to the participants on successfully completing the course and joining the Australia Awards alumni network! We wish them all the best in their future endeavours as they continue to drive meaningful change.
