Australian Alumni Reconnect in Central Java for Ramadan Celebration

The Australian Consulate-General in Surabaya hosted a series of Buka Puasa with Australian Alumni events across Central Java, bringing together alumni in Semarang on 4 March at Rosti Café and in Solo on 5 March at Novotel Hotel. The Semarang gathering marked the beginning of a series of Ramadan events organised by the Consulate-General across East Java and Central Java, including Semarang, Solo, Malang, and Surabaya, throughout March.

These events provided an opportunity for over 125 alumni to reconnect, strengthen networks, and engage with representatives from the Australian Consulate-General. In his opening remarks, Mr Glen Askew, the Australian Consul-General in Surabaya, emphasised the vital role of alumni in strengthening the bilateral relationship:

"Alumni are at the heart of the Australia-Indonesia partnership, and their connections continue to drive meaningful collaboration between our two nations. This gathering is a wonderful opportunity to come together, celebrate shared experiences, and foster a strong alumni network that supports each other and contributes to our enduring friendship," said Mr Askew.

The Australian Consulate-General in Surabaya remains committed to supporting alumni and fostering meaningful connections. Beyond networking, the event reflected shared values of inclusivity, respect, and community, which are fundamental to the Australia-Indonesia relationship. Alumni exchanged insights on their careers, explored collaboration opportunities, and reflected on the impact of their Australian education.

The evening unfolded in a warm and vibrant atmosphere, filled with lively conversations, rekindled friendships, and new connections. Alumni enjoyed mingling, sharing a meal, and capturing the moment through photos.

This gathering served as a testament to the strong ties between Australia and Indonesia and the significant role alumni play in fostering people-to-people connections.
