Australia Award scholars from Indonesia participating in the Australia Indonesia Business Council (AIBC) 2018 Conference were fortunate to participate in a roundtable discussion with His Excellency Tom Lembong - Chairman of the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) and former Indonesian Minister for Trade 2015–2016. This year’s AIBC conference themed ‘Partnering for Prosperity in a World of Change’ was held at the Marriot Hotel on Queensland’s Gold Coast and included dignitaries such as His Excellency Kristiarto S. Legowo - Indonesia’s Ambassador to Australia and The Honorable Andrew Robb AO - Chairman of Asialink and Asialink Business, and Australia’s former Minister for Trade and Investment. Ten AAI scholars from a private sector background were selected to participate in the AIBC Conference accompanied by former WA Trade Commissioner to Indonesia Martin Newbery who maximised the networking opportunities for scholars including the Roundtable Discussion with H.E Tom Lembong. An impressive range of private sector organisations were represented amongst the participating AAI scholars including Garuda Indonesia, Siemens, Wilmar International, PT Orix Indonesia Finance and PT Waskita LKrya Persero (Tbk).
The AIBC Conference which occurred from 12th to 13th of October is a key event in the AIBC calendar and alternates locations each year between Australia and Indonesia. AIBC National President Phil Turtle welcomed the participation of the AAI scholars at the Conference in 2018 and is a great supporter of the program more broadly. The participation of AAI scholars at the AIBC National Conference is part of AAI’s On Award Enrichment activities which works with AAI scholars in Australia to facilitate professional and personal networks between Australia and Indonesia.
