The Australian Consulate-General in Surabaya, supported by the Australia Awards in Indonesia, hosted a series of “Buka Puasa with Australian Alumni” events across East Java. These events brought together alumni in Malang on 17 March at 8 Oz Coffee Studio and in Surabaya on 18 March at Garasi Ergo. These gatherings, which followed successful events in Semarang and Solo, provided an opportunity for around 125 alumni to reconnect, strengthen networks, and engage with representatives from the Australian Consulate-General.
In his remarks, Mr Glen Askew, the Australian Consul-General in Surabaya, highlighted the significant role alumni play in strengthening the Australia-Indonesia relationship and advancing Indonesia’s sustainable development.
"Our alumni network is a valuable bridge between Australia and Indonesia, built on shared experiences, friendships, and professional collaborations. Through their expertise and leadership, alumni also play a crucial role in contributing to Indonesia’s sustainable development," said Mr Askew.
The Malang gathering marked the launch of the Consulate-General’s Ramadan series in East Java, while the Surabaya event served as its finale, drawing the largest number of attendees. These events provided a platform for alumni to share their professional journeys, explore potential collaborations, and reflect on the impact of their Australian education. The warm and engaging atmosphere fostered meaningful connections, reinforcing the importance of a strong and active alumni network.
We extend our appreciation to all alumni who participated and contributed to the success of these gatherings. Stay tuned for more alumni engagement opportunities in the future!
