Building an Inclusive Energy Future: Australia Awards Short Course Concludes in Sumbawa
How can Indonesia’s energy future be both clean and inclusive?
Through the Australia Awards Short Course ‘Achieving a Just Energy Transition throughout Indonesia’, emerging Indonesian leaders explored how clean energy can empower coastal and remote communities.
The program recently concluded with a post-course workshop in Sumbawa, where participants presented their Award Projects, shared insights and discussed local solutions to ensure no one is left behind in Indonesia’s transition to renewable energy. In a panel on ‘Bridging Innovation and Inclusion from Local Context’, they highlighted the importance of local ownership, affordability and government support.
Participants also visited Olat Maras Tower, VoltoSEA and Medcopower Solar Sumbawa, and met with women-led small enterprises using solar-powered cold storage to strengthen their fish-processing businesses.
Delivered by Griffith University in collaboration with KINETIK, the course equipped participants with the skills, knowledge, and networks to drive a fair, inclusive, and low-carbon energy future for Indonesia.
Reflecting on the experience, participant Achmad Arief Kasbullah shared, ‘Such an amazing experience! I learned so much, built new connections, and visited Australia for the first time. I've already recommended the course to my colleagues, so they can look forward to applying next year!’
