In 2016, the Indonesian government passed a new law supporting the needs of people with disabilities (PWD). One of the people that has fought for these rights is Eva Rahmi Kasim, an Australia Awards Scholarships alumna. After Eva graduated from Deakin University in Melbourne, she returned to the Ministry of Social Affairs and currently works as a Mid-level Policy Analyst. She has highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by PWDs and has advocated for enhancing other ministries’ participations, who were previously unaware of disability issues. She believes that Indonesia will become an even warmer home for its people through the implementation of rights equality and respect for diversity.
