Project Rationale:

The environmental crisis is one of the problems faced by Indonesia. Indonesia experiences a waste management emergency. Currently Indonesia is the second largest plastic waste contributor in the world after China. Islamic boarding schools are educational institutions that are quite influential in Indonesia. In terms of environmental management, pesantren is like miniature of Indonesia, they face problems in managing waste, water and green open areas. Therefore introducing environmental management in pesantren is very important, not only to change the environment of boarding schools that are environmentally friendly, but also to change the behavior of pesantren stakeholders (teachers, students, scholars) and then their changes influence the wider community.

Project Description:

Green Islamic Boarding School is a project that we propose which in our opinion will be able to help increase the awareness of pesantren stakeholders as well as pesantren skills in managing the environment. There are three indicators that must be carried out by green boarding schools: waste management (3R, composting, waste bank community, ecobricks), waste water management, green open space. The three indicators will be carried out through workshops, training and green boarding festivals. Through this green boarding school, students, teachers and scholars are expected to be able to influence awareness of environmental management to the wider community.

Project Beneficiaries:

Pesantren stakeholders: teachers, students, and communities around Islamic boarding schools.
