Join us in the Guest Lecture on COVID-19 and Human Rights

Do you want to get some insights on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic to human rights? Join us in the online lecture on “COVID-19 and Human Rights” featuring Professor Sarah Joseph from Griffith University on 23 April 2021 at 2.00 pm Jakarta time.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted every aspect of our lives, and affected every human right detrimentally in every country in the world. In this lecture, Professor Sarah Joseph will highlight some of the most salient rights issues arising from the pandemic. For example, lockdown measures raise issues regarding rights to livelihood, rights to mental health, and freedom of movement. At the same time, a failure to lock down communities has put at risk people’s rights to health and life.

Other containment measures such as testing and tracing have been crucial in controlling the spread of the disease, but also raise issues regarding rights of privacy. Numerous rights issues arise from the COVID-19 vaccines. Is it a breach of human rights should vaccination become compulsory? And what does international human rights law say about the right to equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines, both inside countries and across the world?
