Do you want to know how to solve the problem of mineral criticality worldwide and participate in the energy transition? Join us for an insightful online lecture, “Solving the Puzzle of Mineral’s Criticality Worldwide Toward the Energy Transition,” by Dr George Barakos from Curtin University. This informative session will occur via Zoom on Friday, 13 September 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (Jakarta time).
The criticality of commodities like lithium, cobalt, and rare earth elements (REE), among others, is primarily attributed to their rapidly increasing demand. Another significant aspect of their importance lies in geopolitical strategies and power dynamics between nations. Yet, discussions often overlook additional factors that contribute to defining the criticality of minerals. Moreover, globally published lists of critical minerals vary in their total numbers and the specific commodities deemed critical for Australia and other nations. Even with periodic updates, these lists can differ significantly from previous versions due to various economic, technical, environmental, and sociopolitical factors.
This lecture addresses the challenge of analysing comprehensive data on critical minerals worldwide. The ambiguity in decision-making within the minerals sector impacts economic planning, resource management, and investments. To address this issue, a newly developed web-driven database is introduced, aiming to consolidate critical mineral data from diverse sources and fill existing knowledge gaps.
Calling all graduates and scholars of Australian tertiary institutions from Indonesia interested in exploring mineral’s criticality and energy transition!
