Apply Now for the Australia Awards Short Course on Community-Based Early Warning, Early Action and Climate Risk Management in the Indo-Pacific

Applications are now open for the Australia Awards Short Course, ‘Community-Based Early Warning, Early Action and Climate Risk Management in the Indo-Pacific’, designed for practitioners from Indonesia and the Pacific Island Countries (Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Nauru, and Kiribati) working in disaster risk reduction, early warning systems, climate risk management and community-based preparedness.

This fully funded short course is designed to strengthen participants’ capacity to develop and implement inclusive, community-based early warning and early action systems that reduce disaster risks and build resilience across the Indo-Pacific. The program explores practical approaches to anticipatory action, community-led preparedness, and the integration of gender, disability, and social inclusion (GEDSI), ensuring that early warning information can lead to timely and meaningful action at the local level.

Participants will gain insights into key policy frameworks and operational tools for community-based disaster risk management, including participatory risk assessments, community hazard mapping, early warning system design, and coordination among government agencies, civil society organisations, technical institutions, and local communities. Learning activities will include expert-led sessions, case studies, simulations, site visits, peer learning, and engagement with Australian and regional practitioners, enabling participants to apply course learnings within their respective institutions and sectors.

The program consists of a three-day Pre-Course Workshop in Indonesia, a two-week intensive program in Australia, and a three-day Post-Course Workshop in Indonesia.

We strongly encourage women from disadvantaged backgrounds and people with disabilities to apply. Applications must be submitted online no later than Sunday, 21 June 2026 at 23.59 WIB. For application details and eligibility information, please visit this page.

Australia Awards in Indonesia will also host a virtual information session on 29 May 2026 at 10.00 WIB (Jakarta time) to provide information about the application process. To join the session, please register no later than 28 May 2026 at 12.00 WIB through link.
